The greed of big pharmaceuticals is on show this week as a company named ‘Turing Pharmaceuticals’ bought a lifesaving medication that treats parasitic infections like malaria. The drug predominantly bought by AIDS and cancer patients, used to cost $1 each but now, Turing Pharmaceuticals are making, each pill cost $750.
The New York Times even covered the incident, reporting that “Specialists in infectious disease are protesting a gigantic overnight increase in the price of a 62-year-old drug that is the standard of care for treating a life-threatening parasitic infection.”
This drug was priced at just $1 before. It went up to $13.50 over the last ten years or so, and now has ranked to $750 per pill. This means the difference between comfortably being able to afford treatment to it running into hundreds of thousands of dollars and clearly some patients unable to afford the treatment that they would desperately need.
Why is Turing Pharmaceuticals charging $750 a pill? It’s quite simple… Because they can. Like every other drug company in the world, they’re going to take complete advantage of the consumer and take the maximum amount of money possible. Big Pharma is mostly all about the profits claim.
The Daraprim pill costs approximately 20 cents to manufacture. How does Turing Pharmaceuticals justify $750 a pill? According to Martin Shkreli, it’s “a bargain for health insurers” at $750. When a pill that sells for $750 is called ‘a bargain,’ you know you’re living under a monopolistic profit obsessed medical body. And the government is protecting it.
Nature already provides highly effective medicines at non cost.
This tree, provides powerful medicine at no cost. While Big Pharma is slating consumers with extortionate prices.
All around the globe, nature is providing safe, affordable medicine for free. Big Pharma, meanwhile, price wallop the world, economically punishing everyone while greedily hiking pill prices 5000%.
If there was ever a case to be made for natural medicine, Turing Pharmaceuticals just exposed it again. People who use natural medicine rather than Big Pharma medicine have access to safe affordable medicine.
Herbs, essential oils and healing foods are attainable for virtually nothing. Many can be grown yourself for free. The plants synthesise the medicines without charge, and there are no royalties or patents to think of.
This is the same greedy industry that injects our children with compromising if not dangerous vaccines that cause autism and then that runs a price monopoly on pharmaceuticals in the USA; that pays generic drug companies that buys off the FDA and government regulators; that routinely commits scientific fraud to make useless drugs appear effective.
Natural medicine is safe, affordable and non patented. This means it cannot be controlled by greedy corporations and their patent attorneys.
Getting into the total lack of ethics of these people…
Turing Pharmaceuticals CEO Martin Shkreli is a former hedge fund manager and that’s not really a surprise.
he has gone from gouging people’s money for investments to gouging people’s money for medicine.
Hillary Clinton apparently said that she will be investigating the price increase and did in fact say that she thinks it’s absurd. (Perhaps she’s just saying that stay on the right side of the people).
Here is her tweet:
‘Price gouging like this in the specialty drug market is outrageous. Tomorrow I’ll lay out a plan to take it on.’ -H
Martin Shkreli, a former hedge fund manager who is now chief executive officer of Turing Pharmaceuticals AG, was called out by Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Clinton tweeted that she would soon release a plan to combat the high cost of prescription drugs. Biotechnology stocks fell after her comment.
“I’m going to address them this week, starting with how we’re going to try to control the cost of skyrocketing prescription drugs,” said Clinton in the Bloomberg article. I’m very shocked and surprised seen as she will be attacking the very people that basically fund her campaigns! The idea that Hillary Clinton, the ultimate big money insider, is going to hurt the profits of Big Pharma is confusing and to be honest sounds completely dis- in genuine.
What hasn’t been reported and what most people don’t remember-is how George W. Bush made sure the U.S. government was not allowed to negotiate prices with Big Pharma.
It’s all business as usual in other words.
